Iguaçu Falls

Iguaçu National Park

This National Park has a world-wide importance as it is a World Natural Heritage Site (by UNESCO in 1986) and it´s the most extensive fall, surpassing Niágara and Victória in number of falls, with 275. The name comes from indigenous root “y” meaning “water” and “uaçu” meaning “large”. The protected area surrounding the falls, gives the proper frame of lush green vegetation that completes the stunning spectacle of the panoramic view. Iguaçu Falls are the geographical border between Brazil and Argentina, and both sides offer attractions to see it from many perspectives. A truly must-see site for every nature lover!

Highlights

Iguaçu Falls

Brazil has a lot of beautiful landscapes and international standard destinations. The Iguaçu Falls maybe one of the most important ones, once it´s among the three largest falls in the World, together with Niágara Falls and Victória Falls. The main difference between them, is that Niágara Falls (considering both Canadian and American sides) has 930m length and around 35 to 57m height with the largest water flow rate – while Victória Falls, in the border between the African countries Zâmbia and Zimbabwe, is the highest with 128m height and 1.500m length – Iguaçu Falls is also a border, between the countries Argentina and Brazil, and is the most extensive with 275 waterfalls, 2.700m length and between 60-82m height of this natural spectacle!

Argentine Side

A large part of Iguaçu Falls is in the Argentinian side, where another National Park, called Iguazu, keeps this important ecosystem. Be aware that we will cross the border, so take your passport with you and check if a visa is required to enter Argentina. Germans, French, Danish and North Americans don´t need visa for tourism.
